I was inspired, after watching these three French movies with a 2019 US release date, and after digging around for other titles available in the U. S., to write some short reviews and try to put together a little survey of current French movies. Please, if you are French or living in France, give your own impressions of the current scene, as you will know much more than I do. My general thinking is that the French are doing cinematic realism like no one else. Many of the small, slice of life movies will never find their way out of the country, and the ones that do may not always be flat-out masterpieces, but they point to a country that is refining and mastering its craft in a very different way than Hollywood or even the American indie world. Of course, then you have directors like Leos Carax, Gaspard Noe, Bruno Dumont, Quentin Dupieux, Hadžihalilović who are very far from straight "realism. "But you could still maybe argue that the "real" inflects their movies in very interesting ways; one of my favorite scenes in Holy Motors is a dad driving his daughter home from a party. it's like something straight out of a French drama, if it was filmed in another dimension. Anyways: Sauvage Truly intense movie about a young gay prostitute selling himself in Paris's Bois de Boulogne, the infamous park where hookers line the road sides at night. Gaspard Noé-esque intensity, albeit less stylized, more "realism. A feel-bad movie for sure, but gripping nonetheless, and one of the ones that reminds you just how different other peoples worlds and realities can be than your own. It's a feeling I've had in real life, with people who live much more interesting and exciting (or bleak) lives than mine. It's a movie that's best when you put your own morality aside (hard as it is to do) and embrace the animalistic and sensual. 9/10 Doubles Vies (Non-Fiction) On Hulu) I probably would not have liked this movie had I watched it when I was living in France at 17. There's an endless stream of French movies about upperclass Parisians, their marriages, their affairs, their kids, their dinner table discussions, and these movies all engage in a general filmic interrogation of joie de vivre, happiness, and what it means to live. A kind of contented, easy going pretentiousness. in America there is a sense of shame surrounding intellectual discussion that doesn't exist in France. These movies often capture the mannerisms and tones of French conversation very well, but they always annoyed me a little. This movie emphasizes all of that to an almost parodic degree. extremely long conversations about the state of media and publishing today, affairs, arguments. But I forgive it for its excess, because I found it charming and extremely funny in some scenes (look out for their discussion of the White Ribbon) and because I've mellowed in my tastes. Still, I feel like some aspects may be lost in translation for U. S audiences, even though this was, ironically, one of the movies that got a slightly wider U. S. release—undoubtedly due to Olivier Assayas' name recognition. 8/10 Plaire, Aimer, et Courir Vite (Sorry Angel) on Netflix) Another realistic gay-themed movie, more similar to Call Me By Your Name than Sauvage, in that it's also based around age difference. It has much more pathos than sauvage, much more relatable, and a pretty light, funny tone, especially considering that it deals with AIDs during the 90s. Has some great scenes, very talented direction. 7. 5/10 And these are my favorite French movies that had a 2018 US release date: Jeune Femme (Montparnasse Bienvenue) I don't know why, I just loved it. A young woman making her life in the city, on her own after a breakup. Felt it was charming, unpretentious, and refreshing. 9/10 Jusqu'a la Garde (Custody) Stylistically, this has that same realism I was talking about, but it felt much more like a Hollywood movie in its overall construction: tight, controlled, and intense. Reminds me of a Denis Villeneuve movie maybe. I won't say too much, but I really urge people to see this, it definitely won't get "lost in translation" like some of these other ones might. Maybe didn't touch me as personally as some others, but very impressive. 8. 5/10 Félicité Amazing movie about a mother and professional singer wandering all around Kinshasha, trying to get healthcare for her injured son. Rich sense of place, of sounds and color, of movement through the city, and a loose feel, with some dreamlike sequences slipping in. Kaleidoscopic and moving. 9. 5/10 I have a whole list of movies that I'm planning to see, that I want to see that aren't available, or that will be released soon. -Portrait of A Lady On Fire is getting major buzz -Gaspard Noé's Climax, of course. -Romain Gavras' Le Monde est A Toi is on Netflix. -Knife + Heart is available for purchase online And here's a whole bunch of movies from 2018 alone (French release) that struck me as interesting, although many are completely unavailable: Au Poste, Pupille, Shéhérazade, Le Grand Bain, cest ca lamour, Nos batailles, Amanda, L'Amour Flou, En Guerre, Mademoiselle de Joncquières, les chatouilles, Sofia, Monsieur, lheure de la sortie, Inséparables, Rebelles. Let me know if you've seen any of these! Or feel free to talk about French film in the 21st century more broadly...

It was earlier reported by 1 NEWS that a Christchurch couple were being questioned in relation to the deaths. The bodies of a 63-year-old carpenter, Nirmal Kumar, his 54-year-old wife, Usha Devi, their 34-year-old daughter, Nileshni Kajal, and her two daughters Sana, aged 11, and Samara, eight, were found in the Nausori Highlands last month on August 26. A one-year-old was also found crawling at the scene. The baby was hospitalised but has since been released. The father of the two children who died told the Fiji Sun that his father-in-law, who also died in the incident, was interested in witchcraft, according to AAP. “I never saw anyone or any family so much into witchcraft than my in-laws, ” he said. “I used to see my in-laws and other witchdoctors making a doll from dough and poking needles in it. I always took my daughters away into the bedroom. In a speech today, Ms Ardern outlined developments made to the Christchurch Call, in partnership with other governments. Among the notable changes, she said, was an overhaul to the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism to make it an independent body that will drive much of the tech sectors work on implementing the scheme. “The new standalone Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism will have a dedicated structure and staff to more capably carry out the business of disrupting terrorist and violent extremist use of member platforms and to engage with smaller platforms to assist them do the same, ” Ms Ardern said. “Its mission now encompasses violent extremist content online – not just terrorist content. And it will have working groups focused on research, on algorithms, and on data privacy and information sharing. ” Alongside this is the development of a new crisis response protocol – described by Ms Ardern as a “priority out of Paris” – to be used by governments and tech companies to coordinate and to manage the online impacts of terrorist attacks. Police break down barriers by learning Mandarin Blair Atkinson is one of 47 sworn and non-sworn staff who've taken Mandarin classes, up from 31 in January. In TV shows and movies, police break down doors with brute force and much yelling. In real life, Constable Blair Atkinson and his colleagues hope to break down barriers by learning a new language. Atkinson, from the police Serious Crash Unit at Auckland's Motorway Policing Traffic Centre, is one of 47 police staff who've taken Mandarin lessons. Jessica Phuang, police Ethnic Responsiveness Manager, said the language and cultural competency lessons helped police better engage with Mandarin speakers In a statement, Customs said a woman was arrested and charged at Christchurch Airport on Monday. An examination of the woman's baggage revealed 2. 5kg of cocaine had been hidden in the lining of five puffer jackets. The drugs had a potential street value of up to 875, 000. The woman had flown to New Zealand from Zimbabwe via Ethiopia and Singapore. Her travel had come to the attention of Customs officers. If you cut through all the jibber-jabber and useless waffle about President Trump politely showing an interest in PTPM Arderns gun “buyback” scheme, we need to ask what exactly Jacinda achieved for New Zealand? The answer, of course, is NOTHING! No steel Free Trade Agreement We didnt send her over there to womble on about her useless pet project the Christchurch Call, or to do a Greta Thunberg lecturing the President about the Fake Climate Emergency, or even to talk to him about how she is doing her best to disarm New Zealands law-abiding population. Her job was to secure a steel deal for New Zealand by getting the tariffs removed and to secure a Free Trade Agreement. Her “Pull-aside” meeting was much like the contraceptive “Pull-out” method. Completely unsatisfactory and rarely successful. Well, how do you like them apples? The meeting didnt happen because Jacinda Ardern had asked for it in order to try to advance New Zealands interests. The meeting only happened because Trump was curious about the PM who was handed her job by a minor party and who has shown no diplomacy whatsoever, calling him orange and a professional arsehole as well as joining in a march against him being democratically elected by the American people. If I were he, I would want to have a closer look at a political clown too. Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters has criticised suggestions Sri Lankas Easter Sunday bombings were retaliation for the Christchurch mosque shootings, saying his country is being “misused”. Sri Lankan Deputy Minister for Defence Ruwan Wijewardene last week said early investigations had revealed the bombing of churches and hotels that killed 253 people had been in revenge for shootings at two New Zealand mosques on March 15, which killed 50 people. ” Expect anything in the the jihad war against infidels and any made up excuse about victimhood. Meanwhile the astronomical tally of abuses by Islamic supremacists and jihadists globally is routinely ignored. Excuses for jihadi violence range from “colonialism” and “zionism” to “insulting Islam” and now the attack on innocent Christians in Sri Lanka is being blamed by some on the New Zealand shooter who identified as left wing, right wing, socialist, and his favorite model government was communist China. The recent jihad massacer in Sri Lanka was purely about the rise of jihadists in Southern Asia, nothing else. Jihadists do not need any excuse. Their goal is self evident in their 1400 year war against infidels, from Muhammad to ISIS. It is instructed: “war is deceit” (Bukhari 4. 52. 268) so blaming New Zealand for the Sri Lankan massacre is merely a lie and propaganda to a ‘greater end. Buddhists are also now deemed to be a target in Sri Lanka, as are all infidels. How does a jihadi girl get recognition and love? A few fuel-doused gas canisters at a renowned Christian cathedral should do the trick. Suspected female jihadists on trial for botched terror attack on Pariss Notre-Dame Cathedral, ” France 24, September 23, 2019 (thanks to Henry) Five women go on trial at a special Paris court on Monday for attempting to blow up a car near Notre-Dame Cathedral in 2016 in what prosecutors say was a failed jihadist attack. The women, now between the ages of 22 and 42, are charged with attempting to explode a vehicle laden with fuel-doused gas canisters in the shadow of the medieval monument in central Paris…. According to unnamed sources, the women had also been plotting other attacks and were looking at train stations in Paris and the citys southern outskirts, as well as police officers, as potential targets…. One of the women, now 22, is considered the key player in the failed attack. She was just 18 when she and her co-defendants joined a channel on the social network Telegram that was run by one of Frances most notorious jihadists, who is believed to be linked to a gruesome attack on a French priest in Normandy and the killing of a French police couple at their home. According to court documents, the women sent the jihadist videos pledging their allegiance to the IS group. He is currently the subject of an international arrest warrant and will be tried in France in absentia. He is believed to have been killed by a drone strike in 2017 around the Iraqi city of Mosul, but while US authorities have confirmed his death no proof of death has been officially reported to the French courts. One of the defendants lawyers has previously said his client was vulnerable to the IS groups recruitment efforts because she was “a girl in search of recognition and love”. Prosecutors say the attempted explosion could have killed dozens of people in one of the French capitals most touristed neighbourhoods. It came after a string of Islamic extremist attacks that deeply shook France and hardened its security stance In spite of him defending Labours handling of the sex scandal, Winston knows what damage such things can do. He will be well aware that Labours polling is falling, and might want to take the opportunity to rebuild his own numbers to benefit from it. There have been many Labour MPs who have quietly applauded Peters piling into the issue this week, even though it can be seen as undue interference in another partys business. There are probably even more people in Nationals wider support base whose views have not been reflected by deputy leader Paula Bennett, a confidant of the complainants, and who will also have been applauding Peters this week. For the seniors, Peters has already signalled a SuperGold card enhancement next week while he is Acting Prime Minister. That will please some of his voters, but I wonder if Winston has simply broken too many electoral promises for anyone to ever believe him again.

An american in paris suite john whitney. I have a theory, which I didnt find elsewhere. Its that Cobb is actually in a coma, never in “reality”. But the coma works like a dream, as much as it imitates reality. Let me explain, first, how its all a dream. second, how that dream is actually a coma. RECURRING DREAMS Lets start at the beginning of the movie. The first scene takes us on the shores where Cobb arrives and gets picked up by Saitos men. This is actually a scene from further in the movie, so as spectators, we accept this as a FLASH-FORWARD, and as we continue to watch the movie, we forget about it until it comes up again. It also serves as a good introduction to how both Cobb and Saito met in the first place. Along the lines of a movie narrative, it makes sense, but it makes even more sense if we consider the fact that some dreams repeat themselves in real life. A recurring dream is a way for the subconscious to help you pay attention to unresolve issues, sometimes just the fact that the dream didnt have an ending is enough to revisit it in one night. It would then be safe to say that Cobb, while in a coma, dreamt this particular dream quite a few times. It also indicates that, before the movie started, he was dreaming it, but never finished it. CHARACTERS OUT OF THEIR COUNTRIES A few characters pop up in different countries in short periods of time. Miles, who was in Paris when Cobb was preparing the operation, greeted Cobb at the airport in the US. Miles is told to be the grandfather of both James and Philippa, Cobb and Mals children. And while on the phone with his kids, Philippa speaks of their grandmother, a woman with a french accent, who wont come to the phone. Now, why would Miles, an American teaching in Paris, leave his wife in the US with the children? And how easy was it for him to fly during the school year to wait for Cobb at home? A second character to pop up at a very fortunate time is Saito, in Mumbassa, Kenya, exactly when Cobb needs a way to escape. The answer comes easily for him, but we as an audience believe it way too easily. But wait, theres more interesting stuff coming. THE DREAM FROM MEMORY Cobb says to Ariadne never to build from memory real places. She then replies: “Is that what happened to you? ”. This is a huge clue to whether this is all a dream. Further along in the movie, Ariadne discovers that Cobb created a space where his memories are kept, based on actual places. This means Cobb is able to violate his own rule, in this case, of never building from memory. “We lost sight of what was real. ” -Cobb. “Now youve noticed how much time Cobb spends doing things he says never to do” -Arthur List of things Cobb does but says never to do: Grab someone elses Totem, build dream from reality, inception on his wife (which changes that person completely) “These are moments that I regret. Memories that I have to change. ” This last line feels like he wants to change his own thoughts, create an inception on himself (a theory build from other theories found online, I didnt make this one up. THE LINES OUT OF PLACE During the whole movie, a few lines are said to Cobb that may seem innocent in context, but together, find a whole new meaning. “Come back to reality. ” -Miles “They think the dream is their reality. Who are you to say otherwise? ” -Old man in dream room. “Youre not in a dream now, are you? ” This was said to him during the chase in Mumbassa. It may seem like an affirmation, but is actually an honest question. “Will you take a leap of faith? ” said by Saito and by Mal. A coincidence that can be explained by the fact that his dreams are mixing. THE APPEARANCE OF THE CHILDREN Cobbs children appear in very unexpected places, but mostly when Cobb needs to be reassured that he knows where reality is. When convincing Fischer that his name is Charles, hes telling him that hes in a dream. This somehow triggers a sensitive cord in him, and makes his children appear. This is because the action of convincing someone that theyre in a dream reminds him that he might himself be making that mistake at the top level of the dream. Everytime the idea of mistaking reality with dream comes up, he thinks of his kids, or he mentions them. EVERY TIME, I swear. CHILDRENS FACES Never throughout the whole movie does Cobb see his childrens faces. Why? Because as soon as Cobb would see their faces, he knows he would identify this as his reality. When he leaves after Mals suicide, he wishes to see their face, but cant. And only at the very end when he made the choice of not caring if the top topples, he sees them. This means he chose his reality. POSITIVE THOUGHTS: THE CHILDREN The concept that positive thoughts always trump negative ones is proven with his children. Without the existence of his children, Cobb mightve followed Mal in her suicide, but the thought of seeing his children again was strong enough to make him stay in that dream. The negative thought was the suicide, which Mal used to draw him out, but it wasnt as strong as the positive thought of seeing his children again. Wanting to see their face in that layer of dream shows that he wanted it to be his reality. Never, before the ending, does he see their faces, not even in the flash-back where Mal says she would know her own children. And for some reason, he says “Theyre waiting for us. ” to Mal on the ledge, which makes no sense as a statement since this was a planned anniversary evening. Him thinking his children are waiting for him sounds like a chorus one would repeat in a dream. he actually says it earlier to Miles at school. MAL BECOMES THE VILLAIN In the second scene of the movie, Mal pops up and we discover that shes not playing nice at all. She shoots Arthur in the leg to cause him pain. Since the subconscious mind is making Mal into an enemy, its safe to assume that, because of the betrayal Cobb feels from Mal leaving him by killing herself, hes turning her into a villain in his own mind. Another way Cobb can willingly turn Mallerie into the villain is simply by her name. Mallerie is a french woman, and Mal in french means Evil. A strange nickname to give to your lover. THIS IS COBBS DREAM One big element that is necessary in order for this dream to be logical is for it to be Cobbs dream, and for him to be alone in it. If he wasnt, the others subconscious would constantly attack Cobb. We are told that this could be Cobbs dream when he fights with Mal in front of the kids. TOTEM When in limbo with Mal, Cobb opens the safe with her totem inside. He then picks it up and proceeds to plant the idea by spinning it. The fact that he touched the totem in itself is a violation of the totem, and it defeats the purpose of it for Mal. The role of the totem is to allow a dreamer within someone elses dream to know right away if they are in a dream or not. Knowing that when Mal and Cobb are in limbo, it is a deeper level of Cobbs dream, we know the totem is necessary to Mal to understand that she is in Cobbs dream. The weight of the top is known only to its owner. This allows for the owner of a totem to be the only one capable of dreaming its correct weight. Being in someone elses dream would involve the dreamer to project the object with an incorrect weight, making it obvious that the owner is in someone elses dream. Where it doesnt work, is to differentiate your own dream from reality. The fact that Cobb touched the totem in limbo is supposed to be enough to defeat the purpose of the totem, as Arthur suggests is. But what is not clearly mentioned is that while in a dream, touching someones totem changes nothing for anyone. It only defeats the purpose if it is touched by someone else in reality. Therefore, it would make no difference that Cobb picked it up while in limbo, or in the Hotel Room since no other dream followed for Mal. When Mal has doubts about the reality, she stands next to her totem, which indicates that she feels it has the wrong weight. But where it screwed things up is for Cobb afterwards. Picking the totem up in the Hotel Room and using it after would be ok if he was in fact in reality. But if he was in a dream, he would still have the wrong weight, but would not be aware of it, and therefore wouldnt be able to use it properly as a totem. Many theories online have found that Cobbs ring is actually his totem. This makes sense when hes wearing the ring, because he knows the correct weight of it. But what happens when he stops using the ring because, well, hes no longer in a relationship? He can no longer tell if his ring has the right weight or not. Had he warn the ring in reality, he wouldve at least known that this was either true reality or his own dream. But since he no longer wears it, it becomes impossible for him to tell. The fact that he switched totem shows that hes lead by his emotions, and not by reason, making him vulnerable to make mistakes. (This was a lot, hope it was clear… lets move on. COBB IS EVERYONE (dream top level) In a dream, our mind is every character, which means that everyone could be a fragment of Cobbs subconscious mind. And if thats the case, then no rules apply except the ones he invents himself. Knowing this, where can we tell that the other characters are real or not. Miles and Mal are the only two characters who call Dominick by his surname, when everyone else call him Cobb. This might be a way to tell the fictional characters apart from the people in Cobbs real life. Now that weve identified what tells us Cobb is in a dream, lets find out why he could be in a coma, and what are the clues. LOGICAL, NOT SCI-FI The first clue to this is pretty obvious, and thats the fact that its actually impossible to visit someone else's dream. But, since were watching what seems to be a science-fiction movie, we accept this as a new technology that the future holds for us. But is this really taking place in the future? There are no other indications, like inventions or dates, that proves it is. SONG THERAPY The song they constantly hear that tells them theyre about to wake up is called Non, je ne regrette rien, from Edith Piaf (a french singer Marion Cotillard actually played 3 years prior to this movie. The use of the song acts like a treatment proven to be somewhat effective with unconscious patients. Playing music to coma patients is a common practice that helps them recognize reality and ressurface from a coma. It would therefore be logical for Cobbs brain to associate that echo music to a signal. You probably experienced this yourself, when music plays while youre asleep, it can influence your dream. This would be a clue that his wife Mal is trying to wake him up with an old favorite song that represents their love, in the hopes that he will follow it back to the surface, to his hospital room, wheres shes by his side. The song also fits well in terms of lyrics, as it depicts how, even if her husband is in a coma, she doesnt regret anything since its always been about being with him. COBB BUILDS DREAM FROM IMPRESSIONS OF THE HOSPITAL HES IN The whole idea of being able to travel into someone elses dream only by wrapping a tube to your wrist is strange and seems unrealistic. But what if it came from the mind of someone who was actually always connected to a tube, like a patient in a hospital, the mind would turn it into something different through the dream. This could explain why when Cobb meets Yosuf, he brings him into a room with 12 patients connected to the same tube, exactly like in a hospital room. This impression left from the real world on Cobb underlines his vulnerability, and when Yusuf says: “Perhaps you will not want to see. ”, he reminds us that he tries to deny his reality, which is basically a hospital room. COBOL ENGINEERING The company that hired Cobb to work on Saitos mind and extract information is called Cobol Engineering, which is a close variation of his name, meaning it might be his own mind engineering the dream. If that is the case, then theres probably no company in reality hiring him to visit peoples dreams, and therefore he would be in a coma. COBB & MAL And last, but not least, the two most important characters, which may be the only ones that really exist are Cobb and Mal. A good way directors have found to insert the true meaning of movies was by leaving marks that they could refer to, to prove their intentions. This could be it for Inception, as the two first letters of each names spell Co-Ma. The idea that Christopher Nolan did this on purpose might be a little farfetched, but I personally find it interesting. Knowing how hes always fascinated by the condition of the human mind, like short term memory loss, insomnia, obsession, this could be the best way to cope with having someone you care about stuck in a coma. To acknowledge that they might be oblivious to the truth, but happy in where they are, sounds like a better scenario to me. Like he said once in that commencement speech: Every reality is valid. I hope you liked it, and if you agree, or see it as plausible, let me know in the comments.

There's no other way to say it: I am disappointed. After absolutely falling in love with 'Singin' in the Rain (1952) – a film that singlehandedly ignited my newfound passion for musicals – I, perhaps unreasonably, expected to enjoy Vincente Minnelli's 'An American in Paris (1951) just as much. Gene Kelly? Music by George Gershwin? Winner of six Oscars, including Best Picture? A clear home-run… or so I'd thought. For almost two hours I waited patiently for the film to hit its stride, but the moment never came, and I finished the film completely unsatisfied, feeling as though somehow it was my fault rather than the picture's. That there's merit in many of the film's musical numbers is undeniable, but, for some reason, all the pieces never quite came together for me, and the love story at the film's centre struck me as being rather generic and uninspired. Gene Kelly, of course, brings an incredible energy to his role as always, and his character exhibits a likable arrogance that gives way to unabashed exuberance once the music starts playing.
As is unfortunately the case in many musicals, the filmmakers seem to have dedicated all their efforts towards the extravagant musical sequences and forgotten that there is ultimately a story to be told. The romance between Jerry Mulligan and Lise Bouvier (Leslie Caron) is one that we've seen many times before, and its mundaneness is amplified by the fact that nineteen-year-old Lise is neither as beautiful nor as charming as the film's characters appear to find her {though, in Caron's defence, this was the French actress' debut performance, and she may be acting in a language with which she was uncomfortable. The awkward three-way relationship between Jerry, Lise and the charming Frenchman Hank Baurel (Georges Guétary) could easily have been played for enormous laughs, but the opportunity is abandoned after just two brief chuckles {with Oscar Levant, the passive onlooker, clumsily spluttering drink all over his shirt. Such contempt is apparently shown for the story that entire subplots are shamelessly disregarded at the film's end – does Jerry achieve success with his exhibition? Does Adam Cook ever achieve his dream of performing at a concert?
This brings us to the musical numbers, which are thankfully the film's saving grace. Though none of the sequences begin to approach the timelessness of "Singin' in the Rain. Make 'Em Laugh" or "Good Morning, they are obviously well-written and performed with bravura by the film's stars. My favourite number was probably Kelly's catchy rendition of "Got Rhythm" with the French street kids, which had a good beat and was fun to sing. This film's most ambitious sequence is undoubtedly a wordless, seventeen-minute ballet set to Gershwin's "An American in Paris." Costing a staggering 500,000, the extended dance number is audacious, elaborate and extravagant, effectively earning my admiration despite my inclination towards singing over dance {I typically prefer being able to sing along when I'm watching musicals, which is impossible when they are performing a ballet. Displaying Technicolor in all its flamboyant brilliance, it's no surprise that the film won Oscars for its cinematography, set decoration and costume design. Had it possessed a decent story, An American in Paris' might have been a terrific musical, but, as it stands, I'll continue to regard it as a disappointment.

On October 16, 1984, in the Vosges mountains of eastern France, little Grégory Villemin was kidnapped from the family home in Lépanges-sur-Vologne around 5:30 PM in the evening, and four hours later, at about 9:15 PM, his body was discovered down river in the waters of the Vologne. Prior to the crime, the family had received several threats by telephone and by mail from someone who became known as « Le Corbeau », a reference to a 1943 French movie of the same name. His mother Christine would later be accused of the crime, only to be totally and permanently exonerated, and his father would spend several years in prison for murdering the initial suspect. It is one of the most sensational, media-driven cases in my opinion, especially in France, and this has led to many years of debate between parties who are bitter and angry. One can learn more about the case via Wikipedia and the Netlfix documentary Grégory, as well as the France 3 documentary La Malédiction de la Vologne currently online for European/French viewers. According to FranceInfo, today, the « cour dappel de Paris » has nullified the « garde à vue » (a form of involuntary initial detention; if Im not mistaken, American law wouldnt have a direct equivalent, because of probable cause but its closer to English laws detention on reasonable suspicion) of Murielle Bolle, a teenager at the time, who accused her brother-in-law Bernard Laroche of the kidnapping and murder of little Grégory. Any of the statements made while in police custody are no longer admissible, although statements made before the beginning of the « garde à vue » are still admissible. If I understand correctly, someone in custody is clearly informed of the beginning and end of the period of « garde à vue ». So some statements in the first interview ( une audition) as well as in other periods with Jean-Michel Lambert, the juge dinstruction (an investigating magistrate which performs the equivalent of a grand jurys work but is closer to, but not equivalent to, the work of a judge in an Article 32 hearing in the American military according to the UCMJ) are still admissible and remain in the dossier, the report of all evidence and statements.

When the three men are at the café and he friend finds out that Gene and the other guy are talking about loving the same girl the best friend's face and reactions are great and funny. It is a movie for the musical lover's soul and a movie that anyone would enjoy. A great movie about love, friendship, true to one's heart and sacrifice for another one's happiness. It is one of a kind and should never be remade (I've heard rumor hat there is talks to. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for? Go see it now.

LAST UPDATED: Dec 27 Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. Coach Carter Thank you for standing with Hong Kong.
